Question:

How do I change my PID password?

Answer:

Important: This article applies to those who know their current PID password and want to change it. If you have forgotten your password, call 4Help at (540) 231-4357 to have it reset. For more information, see Changing Your Forgotten PID Password. (http://www.answers.vt.edu/ask4help/acctpassword/vtkb225.htm)

To change your PID password:

  1. Log on to My VT (http://my.vt.edu/) using your PID and password.

Note: If you want to be warned when you are being logged on to another Virginia Tech service automatically, place a check in the "Warn Me Before Logging On to Other Virginia Tech Websites" check box. You must place a check in this check box each time you log on to My VT.

  2. Select the Personal Info tab.
  3. Under Contact Info, click the Manage your Profile link.
  4. Under General Information, click the Change Password link.
  5. Create a new password. Refer to Creating Strong Passwords (http://www.computing.vt.edu/accounts_and_access/pickinggoodpasswords.html) for information on creating a strong password.
  6. In the Current Password text box, type the password you want to change.
  7. In the New Password text box, type your new password.
  8. In the New Password Again text box, retype your new password.
  9. Click the Change Password button.
  10. Click the Log Off button.
  11. For increased security, close your browser.
Note: Since many online services, such as e-mail, My VT, and Hokie SPA, require using your PID to log on, you will need to use your new password when logging on to these services.
