Question:

How do I request ED-ID service?

Answer:

  1. Review and verify that your application meets the requirements for usage. For more information, refer to ED Usage Requirements (http://www.computing.vt.edu/infrastructure_services/enterprise_directory/ed_usage_requirements.pdf).
  2. Generate and submit a certificate signing request (CSR). For instructions, refer to Virginia Tech SSL Certificates (http://www.pki.vt.edu/subscriber/vt_middleware_cert.html).
Important: Do not submit your private key or share it with anyone.
  3. Fill out the VT Middleware CA Client Certificate Request form (http://www.pki.vt.edu/subscriber/MiddlewareCertRequest.pdf).
    Important:
    • Remember to place a check in the ED-ID check box.
    • Your department head must sign the request form.
    • Your certificate will expire yearly. When it expires, your application will not be able to access ED-ID. Be sure to keep track of your certificate's validity period.
  4. Fill out the ED Service Registration form (http://www.computing.vt.edu/infrastructure_services/enterprise_directory/service_registration.pdf).
Important: Your department head must sign the registration form.
  5. Mail the certificate request and the service registration forms to: IRM, mail code 0214
    Important:
    • IRM will not issue a certificate or ED-ID service until they have received a paper copy of each form with the required signatures.
    • IRM will contact you when your ED-ID service is ready for use.
  6. Subscribe to the Middleware-Announce LISTSERV list. For instructions, refer to Subscribing to a LISTSERV List (http://answers.vt.edu/ask4help/ad_min/vtkb181.htm).
