Answer:

This article pertains to creating computer accounts in a Central Services Organizational Unit. For more information about the Central Services domain at Virginia Tech, refer to the Central Services Domain page (http://www.computing.vt.edu/infrastructure_services/hokies_domain/central_services/index.html).
There are two parts to this process. First you must create an account in the OU from the OU administrator's computer. If this is the first computer account added to your OU, you will need to contact centralservices@vt.edu with the following information to have it pre-created for you before you join it to the domain.
-
Computer name of system to be joined to the Central Services Domain.
-
Hokies account name of admin joining the computer to the domain.
Then from the computer you wish to add to the OU, you must join the OU.
-
Set up the computer account from the OU administrator's computer:
-
On your computer's desktop, double-click your custom Microsoft Management Console (MMC). When the console loads, you will see two panes. The pane on the left contains a tree view directory of your OU, and the right pane contains the computer, user, and group accounts of your OU.
-
Right-click the right pane, select New, and then select Computer.
-
In the Computer Name text box, type the name of the computer you would like to add to your OU.
-
Click Next.
-
Verify that the Create In text box lists "cntrlsrvs.w2k.vt.edu/Central/[Your OU]".
Note: [Your OU] is the name of your Organizational Unit. If it is not listed, send an e-mail message to
centralservices@vt.edu
