How do I locate and restore a file from my Virginia Tech Network-Attached Storage (NAS) space in Windows XP?

Answer:

Important: You will need to be able to view hidden files and folders to complete these instructions. For instructions on how to view hidden files, refer to Displaying or Concealing Hidden Files and Folders in Windows XP (http://answers.vt.edu/ask4help/desktop/vtkb2108.htm).
  1. Connect to your NAS space. For instructions, refer to the appropriate article below:
  2. Click the Start button, and select Search.
  3. Click the All Files and Folders link.
  4. In the All or Part of the File Name text box, type the name of the file you want to recover.
  5. In the Look In text box, type: \\storage.vt.edu\[Your mystore location]\~snapshot

    Notes:
  6. Click the More Advanced Options link.
  7. Place a check in the Search Hidden Files and Folders check box.
  8. Click the Search button.
  9. Use the Modified field to determine which version of the file you want to recover.
  10. Drag the file to the appropriate location on your computer.
