Question:
How do I access my departmental space on the Virginia Tech Network-Attached Storage (NAS) in Windows 2000/XP?
Answer:
There are two ways to access the space. You can either map a drive to your space, or use the Uniform Naming Convention method.
To map a network drive to your space:
-
Go to My Computer.
-
In Windows XP, click the Start button, and select My Computer.
-
In Windows 2000, double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
-
From the Tools menu, select Map Network Drive.
-
From the Drive drop-down list, select the drive letter you want to map.
-
In the Folder text box, type: \\storage.vt.edu\[Name of Your Space]
Note: Replace [Name of Your Space ] with the name you received in the e-mail message from the NAS administrators.
-
If you want the drive to be mapped each time you log on to your workstation, place a check in the Reconnect at Logon check box.
-
If you are logged on to your Hokies account, click Finish. If not:
-
Click the Different User Name link.
-
In the User Name text box, type: Hokies\[Your Hokies ID]
Note: Replace [Your Hokies ID] with your Hokies ID.
-
In the Password text box, type your Hokies password.
-
Click OK.
-
Click Finish.
To use the Uniform Naming Convention (UNC) method:
-
Click the Start button, and select Run.
-
In the Open text box, type: \\storage.vt.edu\[Name of Your Space]
Note: Replace [Name of Your Space] with the name you received in the e-mail message from the NAS administrators.
-
Click OK.
-
If you are not logged on with your Hokies ID and password:
-
In the Connect As text box, type: Hokies\[Your Hokies ID]
Note: Replace [Your Hokies ID] with your Hokies ID.
-
In the Password text box, type your Hokies password.
-
Click OK.
