To set up a DHCP Ethernet connection:

  1. Check to see if your computer is already configured to connect to the Internet. For detailed instructions, refer to Verifying that Windows 2000/XP is Configured to Connect to the Internet via Ethernet (http://www.answers.vt.edu/ask4help/connection/vtkb2525.htm). If it is already configured, you do not need to complete the following steps.
  2. Install TCP/IP.
  3. Configure TCP/IP.
    1. Click the Start button, select Settings.
    2. Select Network and Dial-up Connections.
    3. Right-click your Network Connection, and select Properties.
    4. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
    5. Click the Properties button.
    6. Select the Obtain an IP Address Automatically option.
    7. Select the Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically option.
    8. Click the Advanced button.
    9. Select the WINS tab.
    10. Select the Use NetBIOS Setting from the DHCP Server option.
    11. Click OK.
    12. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window, click OK.
    13. In your Network Connection Properties window, click OK.
    14. Restart your computer.
