Question:

How do I redirect the My Documents folder to my personal space on the Virginia Tech Network-Attached Storage (NAS) in Windows XP?

Answer:

Most likely, the largest folder in your profile is the My Documents folder. If you use a roaming profile, your profile is downloaded each time you log on, and uploaded each time you log off, potentially creating a long wait. You can eliminate some of the wait time, as well as save disk space on your computer, by redirecting the folder to your space on the NAS. This will also allow you to access your folder from any computer connected to the Internet.

Notes:

To redirect the My Documents folder to your NAS space:

  1. Right-click the My Documents folder, and select Properties.
  2. To configure your folder to open in your NAS space, log on to Hokies Self-Service(http://selfservice.w2k.vt.edu) with your Hokies ID and password.
  3. Note: You will experience a brief redirect when you click on the Hokies Self-Service link.

  4. Configure your folder:
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click the Yes button.
