How do I enable or disable the firewall in Windows XP?

Answer:

  1. Click the Start button, and select Control Panel.
  2. Click the Network and Internet Connections link.
  3. Click the Network Connections link.
  4. Right-click your Internet connection, and select Properties.
  5. Select the Advanced tab.

    Note: If you do not have an Advanced tab, you may have set up an Ethernet bridge for your connection. For instructions on disconnecting the bridge, refer to No Advanced Tab in Local Area Connection Properties when Trying to Enable Firewall in Windows XP (http://www.answers.vt.edu/ask4help/connection/vtkb2329.htm).

  6. Click the Settings button.
  7. Enable or disable your firewall:
  8. Click OK.
  9. In the Local Area Connection Properties window, click OK.
  10. Close the Network Connections window.
