How can I configure Outlook 2000 to connect to the VT Mail server?
Answer:
On your desktop, double-click the Microsoft Outlook icon.
Go to Tools.
Click Accounts.
Click the Add button.
Select Mail.
In the Display Name text box, type your name as you want it to appear in messages you send.
Click Next.
In the E-mail Address text box, type: [Your PID]@vt.edu
Note: Replace [Your PID] with your Virginia Tech PID.
Click Next.
From the My incoming server is a drop-down list, choose POP3.
In the Incoming Mail (POP3 or IMAP) server: text box, type: pop.vt.edu
In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) server: text box, type: auth.smtp.vt.edu
Click Next.
In the Account Name text box, type your Virginia Tech PID.
Clear the Remember Password check box.
Important: Clearing the Remember Password check box means you will be prompted to enter your password when logging on to Outlook. This is recommended for security reasons.
Click Next.
Click Finish.
Select the account you just created, by default it is pop.vt.edu, and click the Properties button.
Select the Servers tab.
Under Outgoing Mail Server, place a check in the My server requires authentication check box.
Click the Settings button.
Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
Click the OK.
Select the Advanced tab.
Under Outgoing Mail, place a check in the This Server Requires a Secure Connection (SSL) check box.
In the Outgoing Mail(SMTP): text box change the number to 465.
Under Incoming Mail, place a check in the This Server Requires a Secure Connection (SSL) check box.
