How do I configure Netscape Mail 7 to connect to the Virginia Tech Exchange Server?

Outlook for Windows and Entourage for Mac OS were designed to be the e-mail clients of choice when accessing an Exchange server. If you use any other e-mail client, you should expect some quirks. For Outlook and Entourage instructions, see the appropriate information:

Faculty and staff members can find information about getting an Exchange account on the Exchange
(http://www.computing.vt.edu/email_and_calendaring/exchange/index.html) page. Students, alums, faculty, and staff members can find information about their VT Mail account on the VT Mail(http://www.computing.vt.edu/email_and_calendaring/vt_mail/index.html) page.
To configure Netscape to connect to the Exchange server:

Add a new account.

If you have never configured a mail account on Netscape 7, from the Window menu, select Mail & Newsgroups.

If you currently have another mail account in Netscape 7:

From the Window menu, select Mail & Newsgroups.

From the Edit menu, select Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings.

Click the Add Account button.

If you have created a mail account in the past, but have since removed it:

From the Window menu, select Mail & Newsgroups.

Click the Create a New Account link.
-
Select the Email Account option.
-
Click Next.

In the Your Name text box, type your name as you want it to appear in messages you send.

In the Email Address text box, type: [Your Hokies ID]@exchange.vt.edu
Note: Replace [Your Hokies ID] with your Hokies ID.

Click Next.

Select the IMAP option.

In the Incoming Server text box, type: exsecure.vt.edu

In the Outgoing Server text box, type: auth.smtp.vt.edu

Click Next.
-
In the Incoming User Name text box, type your Hokies ID if it does not appear.

Click Next.

In the Account Name text box, type: Exchange
-
Click Next.
-
Verify that all of the information is correct.

Click Finish.

If asked "Do you want to use Netscape 7 as the default mail application?", click either the Yes or No button.

From the Edit menu, select Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings.

In the Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings window, in the left pane under your e-mail account, select Server Settings.

In the right pane, place a check in the Use Secure Connection (SSL) check box. The Port number will automatically change.

In the Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings window, select Outoing Server(SMTP).

In the Port: text box, type: 465.
-
In the User Name text box, type your PID if it is not already there.

In the right pane, under Use secure connection(SSL):, select Always.

Click OK.

In the Enter Your Password text box, type your Hokies password.

Click OK.
Important: When checking your Exchange e-mail account, you must use your Hokies ID and password.
