How do I configure Evolution to connect to the Virginia Tech Exchange server?

Answer:

Note: Depending on what kind of accounts you are using, Evolution may attempt to connect to the ports of services such as: POP, POPS, IMAP, IMAPS, LDAP, SMTP, HTTP, HTTPS, and AD (Active Directory).
  1. Verify that Evolution Connector is installed:
    Important: The following instructions apply to Fedora only. If you are using another Linux distribution, such as Red Hat or Mandrake, use the package management utility from your distribution to install connector.
    1. Open a command window.
    2. At the command prompt, enter: rpm -q "evolution-connector"
      • If Evolution Connector is installed, proceed to the next step.
      • If you receive the message "package evolution-connector is not installed":
        1. You will need root access to install Evolution Connector.
        2. To install Evolution Connector, enter: yum install evolution-connector
  2. Start Evolution.
  3. From the Tools menu, select Settings.
  4. From the list on the left, select Mail Accounts.
  5. Click the Add button.
  6. Click the Forward button.
  7. In the Full Name text box, type your name.
  8. In the E-mail Address text box, type: [Your Hokies ID]@exchange.vt.edu
    Note: Replace [Your Hokies ID] with your Hokies ID.
  9. Click the Forward button.
  10. From the Server Type drop-down list, select Microsoft Exchange.
  11. In the Exchange Server text box, type: weboutlook.vt.edu
  12. In the Windows Username text box, type your Hokies ID.
  13. From the Use Secure Connection (SSL) drop-down list, select Always.
  14. Click the Check for Supported Types button.
    Note: If you receive an error, verify that you have entered your settings correctly.
  15. Click the Forward button.
  16. In the Global Catalog Server Name text box, type: gc.w2k.vt.edu
  17. Click the Forward button.
  18. From the Server Type drop-down list, select Microsoft Exchange.
  19. Click the Forward button.
  20. In the Name text box, type a name for your account.
  21. Click Apply.
  22. Restart Evolution.
