How do I configure Outlook 2003 to connect to the Virginia Tech Exchange Server?

Answer:

Important: Faculty and staff members can find information about getting an Exchange account on the Exchange page (http://www.computing.vt.edu/email_and_calendaring/exchange/index.html). Students, alums, faculty, and staff members can find information about their VT Mail account on the VT Mail page (http://www.computing.vt.edu/email_and_calendaring/vt_mail/index.html).

To configure Outlook 2003 to connect to the Exchange server:

  1. Start Outlook.
  2. Start the E-mail Accounts Wizard.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Select the Microsoft Exchange Server option.
  5. Click Next.
  6. In the Microsoft Exchange Server text box, type: exchange.vt.edu
  7. Clear the Use Cached Exchange Mode check box.
  8. In the User Name text box, type your Hokies ID.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Click Finish. Outlook will prompt you to log on.

    Note: If the logon screen does not appear automatically, close all windows and restart Outlook.

  11. Log on to your account.
  12. Click OK.

Important: When checking your Exchange e-mail account, you must use your Hokies ID and password.
