How do I download, install, and configure Citrix to use Outlook to connect to the Virginia Tech Exchange server in Mac OS X v10.2/10.3/10.4?

Answer:

Important: To use Citrix, one must have an Exchange account. Faculty and staff members can find information about getting an Exchange account on the Exchange page (http://www.computing.vt.edu/email_and_calendaring/exchange/index.html). Students, alums, faculty, and staff members can find information about their VT Mail account on the VT Mail page (http://www.computing.vt.edu/email_and_calendaring/vt_mail/index.html).

To download, install, and configure Citrix to connect to the Exchange server:

  1. Obtain permission to use the Citrix server by contacting 4Help using the Help Request Form (http://cicada.cns.vt.edu/~aradmin/prsubmit/prsubmit.cgi/) or by phone at 231-HELP.
  2. Download and install the latest Citrix client from Citrix's Software Download OS X page (http://www.citrix.com/site/SS/downloads/details.asp?dID=2755&downloadID=3250).
  3. Close all windows.
  4. Open your Citrix ICA Client folder. For instructions, refer to Finding Files and Folders in Mac OS X v10.2 and Later (http://answers.vt.edu/ask4help/desktop/vtkb2426.htm).
  5. Double-click the Citrix ICA Client Editor icon.
  6. After reading the license agreement, click the Accept button.
  7. Under Network Protocol, clear the Use Default check box.
  8. From the drop-down menu, select TCP/IP.
  9. Under Server Location, clear the Use Default check box.
  10. In the text box, type: citrix.ais-servers.vt.edu
  11. Under Connection, select the Published Application option.
  12. Click the Browse button.
  13. Select Outlook.
  14. Click the Select button.
  15. Under Login Information, in the Domain text box, type: Hokies
  16. Select the Security tab.
  17. Under Encryption, clear the Use Default check box.
  18. From the Encryption Level drop-down list, select 128 Bit.
    Note: Do not select the 128 Bit for Login Only option.
  19. Select the Window tab.
  20. Under Window Size, clear the Use Default check box.
  21. From the Size drop-down list, select 1024x768.
  22. Click the Save button.
  23. Save your connection to your desktop as: Outlook
  24. Click the Quit button.
  25. To log on to your Outlook connection:
    1. Double-click the Outlook icon on your desktop.
    2. In the User Name text box, type your Hokies ID.
    3. In the Password text box, type your Hokies password.
    4. Click OK.
Important: When checking your Exchange e-mail account, you must use your Hokies ID and password.
