Question:

How do I configure OS X Mail v2.0/2.1 to connect to the VT Mail server?

Answer:

  1. Start Mail.
  2. Add a new account.
  3. From the Account Type drop-down list, select POP.
  4. In the Account Description text box, type: VT Mail
  5. In the Full Name text box, type your name as you want it to appear on messages you send.
  6. In the E-mail Address text box, type: [Your PID]@vt.edu
    Note: Replace [Your PID] with your PID.
  7. Click the Continue button.
  8. In the Incoming Mail Server text box, type: pop.vt.edu
  9. In the User Name text box, type your PID.
  10. In the Password text box, type your PID password.
  11. Click the Continue button.
  12. Place a check in the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) checkbox.
  13. From the Authentication: drop-down menu, select Password.
  14. Click the Continue button.
  15. In the Outgoing Mail Server text box, type: auth.smtp.vt.edu
  16. Place a check in the Use Authentication check box.
  17. For the User Name and Password blocks, enter your PID and password.
  18. Click the Continue button.
  19. In the Account Summary window, click the Continue button.
  20. Click the Done button.
  21. Under Mail, click Preferences.
  22. Under the Accounts tab, select your account from the list on the left.
  23. In the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) field, click the Server Settings button.
  24. Set the Server Port to 465.
  25. Check the Secure Socket Layer(SSL) option.
  26. In the Authentication drop-down list, select Password.
  27. Click OK.
