How do I install Legato NetWorker 7.1 in Windows 2000/XP?

Notes:

Important: You must log on to Windows with an account with computer administrator privileges.
- If you are using a firewall, configure it to allow the IP address 198.82.161.16 so you can access the server that contains the software while you are installing it, and allow the IP address 198.82.162.119 so you can communicate with the backup server.

Install Legato NetWorker:

To register your computer's hostname, complete the 4Help Web Form (http://cicada.cns.vt.edu/~aradmin/prsubmit/prsubmit.cgi/).

Map a network drive.
-
In Windows XP: Click the Start button, right-click My Computer, and then select Map Network Drive.

In Windows 2000: Right-click the My Computer icon on your desktop, and select Map Network Drive.
-
From the Drive drop-down list, select a drive letter that is not in use on your computer.

In the Folder text box, type: \\storage.vt.edu\nw_install
-
Clear the Reconnect at Log On check box.

Click the Different User Name link.
-
In the User Name text box, type: hokies\[Your Hokies ID]
Note: Replace [Your Hokies ID] with your Hokies ID.

In the Password text box, type your Hokies password.
-
Click OK.
-
Click Finish.
-
If your drive window does not open:
-
In Windows XP:
-
Click the Start button, and select My Computer.
-
Double-click the drive you mapped.
-
In Windows 2000:
-
Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
-
Double-click the drive you mapped.
-
Double-click the Nw Install 7.1 folder.
-
Double-click the Win_x86 folder.
-
Double-click the autorun.exe icon.
-
Click the Install Legato NetWorker Release 7.1 Software link.

Click the Open button.
Note: If you receive an "Internal Error 2755" error message, try saving the installer to a temporary folder or your desktop, and then open it.

Click Next.
-
Select the I Accept the Terms in the License Agreement option.

Click Next.
-
In the Name text box, type your name.
-
In the Organization text box, type: Virginia Tech
-
Click Next.
-
Select the Client option.
-
Click Next.
-
In the Allowed Servers text box, type: lifeboat.cc.vt.edu
-
Click Next.
-
Click the Install button.
-
If asked, select whether you want to run the NetWorker Change Journal Manager.

Click Finish.
-
In the NetWorker Change Journal Manager window, click OK.

Install the 7.1 Security patch
-
Return to the Nw Install 7.1 folder and double-click the 7.1 Patch folder.

Double-click the nw714_win_x86.exe icon.

In the Welcome to Networker Update window, click Next.
-
Click the Update button.
-
Place a check in the Run NetWorker Change Journal Manager check box.

Click Finish.
-
In the NetWorker Change Journal Manager window, click OK.
-
Close all windows.
-
Disconnect your network drive.
-
In Windows XP: Click the Start button, right-click My Computer, and then select Disconnect Network Drive.

In Windows 2000: Right-click the My Computer icon on your desktop, and select Disconnect Network Drive.
-
Select the network drive you mapped.
-
Click OK.

Configure the Legato NetWorker client for backup and restore:

Right-click Start and select Explore All Users.
-
Double-click the Programs folder.
-
Double-click the Legato NetWorker file.
-
Right-click NetWorker User and select Properties.
-
On the Target Line, you will see: [Drive Letter]:\Program Files\Legato\nsr\bin\winworkr.exe
Note: [Drive Letter] represents the drive letter where your program files reside, such as "C:".

After the last double quote, add "-s lifeboat.cc.vt.edu".
Example: "C:\Program Files\Legato\nsr\bin\winworkr.exe" -s lifeboat.cc.vt.edu

Click Apply.

Click OK.

Verify the system can contact your computer by sending an e-mail message to 4Help Web Form (http://cicada.cns.vt.edu/~aradmin/prsubmit/prsubmit.cgi/).
